THE IMPACT OF CORRECT ARTWORK IN HOME STAGING
January 17, 2023 / Staging Tips
If you’re putting in the time and effort to bring decor into your staged home, you want to make sure it’s not working against you. Staging your home with art can be a great way to add personality and style to any space. It also helps to create a sense of warmth and makes a room feel more inviting to potential buyers. That’s why the correct artwork matters in home staging. However, artwork that doesn’t suit your home will work against the cohesive, elevated look you’re trying to create. Instead, it can make your decor feel chaotic, and make your space seem overwhelming.
Before you make a decision about the art you want to include, it’s crucial to keep a few key points in mind. Here are the elements that play a role in choosing the right artwork.

Your Home’s Features
The great thing about using appropriate artwork is that it can be used to highlight a home’s best features. This should always be your goal when staging your home. Take inventory of what you want buyers to notice about your home, and then see how you might enhance these features with art.
Think about where you want to focus your potential buyer’s eye. If a room is smaller, it’s best to focus on maximizing the space. Also consider how much natural and artificial light there is in a room when deciding what should be on display.

Color, Style, and Size
Try to avoid art that is too loud or colorful. The kind of art you choose can either be helpful or cause too much distraction in a room. You don’t want it to be too busy. Think about which size would be best. Artwork that is too large can overpower the room, while artwork that is too small can be lost in the space.
If you’re overwhelmed by your options, keep in mind that abstract typically works well for staging. This is a general rule of thumb, but you can choose from different paintings or vibrant photographs. You just want to find something that suits the style of your home. Still, be mindful of using art that’s too modern or bold, as it can quickly steal the attention of your potential buyer.

Height and Arrangement
Generally, artwork should be hung at eye level to have the greatest impact. The placement of your artwork can make a drastic difference in how it adds to a room. You can mix and match sizes and colors to create a more interesting visual, as long as they complement each other.
Think of how the artwork will fit with the furniture you’re using, and try to hang pieces that are sizes and shapes that work well with the overall decor. If you’re feeling creative, it can be great to create a carefully crafted gallery wall. You can do this by incorporating mirrors and other wall hangings.
There’s a ton of art out there, but your main focus should be to feature work that will impress everyone who steps into your home.
